Nestled in the village of Parsons Green, this contemporary family house is defined by double-height ceilings, open-plan living, and a dramatic skylight.

Designed by EF Design for a high-end pâtissier, the ground floor was extended and reimagined as both a refined family home and a functional creative atelier. The client envisioned a true atelier for developing new creations, while preserving an elegant and welcoming atmosphere for family life and entertaining. The challenge was to balance beauty with function.

Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, the concept Through the Looking-Glass introduces a sense of enchantment and discovery. In the story, Alice climbs onto the mantelpiece, touches the mirror, and to her astonishment, steps through it. The aim of the design is to capture that same sense of enchantment—an atmosphere that evokes joy, curiosity, and surprise from the moment you step inside.

Antique golden mirrors set a playful scene, reflecting Emperador marble and the oak cabinets’ warm chocolate tones, adorned with jewel-like knobs. A century-old olive tree softens the boundary with the patio, while a bespoke dresser, finished in biscuit oak with fine cross details, lends warmth and character.

At the heart of the home, a generous island becomes a place for both creation and gathering, bathed in daylight from above. Beyond, a hidden bar and sculptural dining table reveal themselves through graceful arches.

This project achieves a refined balance between creativity and practicality, responding precisely to the client’s professional and social needs —a perfect harmony of beauty and function.
