The project reimagines this Victorian Lion’s House as an elegant yet welcoming family home. Subtle references to the owners’ French and Asian heritage shape the design, combining Victorian architectural details with delicate French influences and the refined simplicity of Japanese aesthetics.
Cornices and ceiling rosettes were carefully reinstated, while antique furniture reinforces the historical spirit of the house. French references inspired the marble chimney breast and the warm solid oak flooring laid in a traditional point de Hongrie pattern throughout the interiors.
In the living room, sculptural curved sofas by Pierre Augustin Rose, upholstered in light peach and cream linen, contrast with a forest green bench. Walnut armchairs by Carl Hansen & Søn, the iconic Noguchi coffee table by Isamu Noguchi, a Tulip marble side table by Eero Saarinen, and the elegant Adnet mirror for Hermès create a refined dialogue between French and Japanese influences.
At the rear, the extension was redeveloped to create a spacious kitchen and dining area inspired by the Orangery at Kensington Palace. A green and white marble tiled floor continues onto the patio paving, creating a seamless transition between the interior and the garden. Large bespoke arched doors open onto the patio and the rebuilt studio beyond.
The kitchen is defined by soft curves and rounded edges. A bespoke oval dining table in Patagonia green quartzite, supported by a single organically shaped walnut leg, forms the focal point beneath a contemporary glass chandelier. Calcite Blue marble worktops with a refined double edge and a curved splashback echo the architectural lines of the space, while a bespoke walnut pantry adds warmth. A Japanese grasscloth and silk wall covering introduces a serene, ethereal atmosphere.
Through the layering of Victorian, French and Japanese influences, EF Design created a home that balances classical heritage with contemporary refinement.
