The aim was to create a sophisticated space designed for social life yet suited for a family with young children and their nanny in a large apartment that had been reduced to its bare bones. The financial aspect was key as the owner’s objective was to sell it off once it had been renovated.

Stripped of its previous non-structural elements, the flat offered a striking view of volume and light. The repetitive openings in the hallway gave the impression of infinite regress. “Mirror in the Mirror” (“Spiegel im Spiegel”) is a soft, elegant, classical composition by Avro Part alluding to mirrors arranged in parallel planes creating an infinity of images. In the piece the tonic triads are endlessly repeated with small variations as if reflected back and forth.

Repetitive architectural arches, curved joinery and round furniture in the proposed design encapsulate the concept of Infinite Regression. EF Design proposed limestone as one of the key features to be used to clad the arches and bespoke shelves. Textured walls in pale blue-green and warm Versailles panels of wood floor enhance the place’s character.
